This report describes work carried out in 2008–2009 under the NRPA – Federal Medical-Biological Agency regulatory support program. It focuses on development of improved regulatory documents and supervision of remediation activities due to be carried out at Andreyev Bay, Saida Bay and Gremikha in Northwest Russia. The work program for 2010–2011 is also introduced.

This bulletin provides information about recent cooperation meetings organized jointly by the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) and the Russian Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA). The aim of these regulatory and research meetings was to present the progress within five current projects, to consider future activities within the scope of regulatory cooperation, and to discuss proposals for research projects that might support scientifically the development of regulatory supervision.

The removal and safe disposal of RTGs and their replacement with solar panel technology in Northwest Russia is a priority area under the Norwegian Nuclear Action Plan. Norwegian cooperation and funding requires Risk and Environmental Impact Assessments during the planning phase. The role of the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) is to perform a review and quality assurance of such assessments.
